Copper Recycling at Endless Metals

Copper is one of the most sought-after metals in the scrap industry, and for good reason. Found in everyday items like household wiring, plumbing pipes, roofing, appliances, motors, and electronics, copper scrap has high value and endless potential for reuse. Recycling copper not only delivers the best return for tradies, businesses, and households, it also reduces the need for mining and keeps this essential metal in circulation.

At Endless, we specialise in all forms of copper recycling, from bright and shiny bare wire and clean offcuts to insulated cable and mixed grades, paying competitive scrap copper prices on the spot. Conveniently located in both Onehunga and Wairau, our drive-through yards make it easy to turn copper scrap into cash while doing your part for a greener New Zealand.

Quick Facts on Copper

  1. Copper is on NZ’s Critical Minerals List
In the government’s “New Zealand Critical Minerals List,” copper is explicitly named among key minerals essential to NZ’s economy and future tech demands.
  2. Only ~7,500 tonnes of copper ore historically mined in NZ
Since NZ’s first copper mine on Kawau Island in 1842, the cumulative copper ore production has been just over 7,500 tonnes.
  3. AMR processed 874,000 tonnes of metal in 2024 (including copper)
The Association of Metal Recyclers (AMR) members (NZ) processed over 874,000 tonnes of metal in 2024, demonstrating scale of scrap metal recycling (copper is part of that).
  4. Copper exports (waste & scrap) to Chile from NZ
In 2021, NZ exported copper waste & scrap to Chile worth about US$174,800.
  5. Renewable energy build-out will drive more copper recovery opportunity
As NZ scales up solar and wind, the end-of-life (EoL) components (which include copper, alongside aluminium and steel) are projected to form a valuable future resource stream.
