Aluminium Recycling at Endless Metals

Lightweight yet strong, aluminium shows up everywhere in daily life, from window frames and roofing to car parts, drink cans, and appliances. Because it’s endlessly recyclable without losing quality, every piece of aluminium scrap that’s recycled helps cut down on the massive energy costs of producing new metal from raw ore.

We take all types of aluminium and alloy at Endless, including extrusion offcuts, sheet aluminium, wheels, and mixed grades. Customers across the North Shore, plus Onehunga and the wider South Auckland area trust our team for transparent weighing, instant payment, and fair aluminium scrap prices. By choosing to recycle your aluminium with Endless, you’re not only turning scrap into cash, you’re helping reduce waste and supporting a circular economy.

Quick Facts on Aluminium

  1. NZ exports large amounts of aluminium scrap & waste
In 2022, New Zealand exported 68,690,600 kg of scrap aluminium (worth about US$103,839,430) to various countries including India, China, and Korea.
  2. Aluminium exports value high
In December 2023, New Zealand’s exports of aluminium (finished / semi-finished) were valued at approx US$796,821,124 (or USD thousands) per CEIC.
  3. Recycling aluminium saves energy
Recycling aluminium consumes only ~5% of the energy needed to produce primary aluminium from ore and emits ~5% of the CO₂ compared to primary production.
  4. Aluminium recycling rate globally/NZ context
Aluminium has a high recyclability rate (e.g. ~71% recycled quoted for NZ, which is much higher than many other materials).
  5. Recycling aluminium reduces demand for bauxite / raw materials
For every kg of aluminium recycled, you typically avoid mining several kg of bauxite and associated chemical usage. (One NZ-oriented stat: 1 kg aluminium saves up to 6 kg bauxite + 4 kg chemicals + 14 kWh energy).
  6. Primary metals sector emissions and fuel use
As of data from MBIE, the primary metal manufacturing sector in NZ (which includes aluminium) uses large quantities of energy and contributes significantly to CO₂ emissions, highlighting how much benefit is gained by increasing recycled aluminium usage.
  7. NZAS output scale
The Tiwai smelter produces well over 300,000 tonnes of aluminium annually, making it a major industrial facility in NZ’s metals landscape.
