We know that paying to get rid of your waste can be a bit of a pain, so at Endless we do our best to make sure our pricing is competitive and transparent.
To make sure you know what you’re in for when renting skip bins, here’s a top tip—when comparing pricing, make sure you are comparing apples with apples. There are some sneaky buggers out there who advertise cheap skip bins, only to hit you with hidden costs down the line.
Not to worry though, we’re here to help 😉 Read on to discover the top three hidden costs of cheap skip bin hire!
1. Overweight Charges
Skip bin hire companies will have a weight limit for their bins, and it differs depending on bin sizes. More importantly, it differs depending on the company too.
It’s difficult to know the exact weight of the items that you put into your skip bin, so before you place a booking it’s a good idea to check the charge per excess kilogram (or tonne) for each company you’re considering – just incase you end up with some overweight charges. Either way, you may have to reconsider putting all 10 of those garden gnomes that grandma gifted you each year in your skip bin!
It’s also worth noting that hardfill bins are an exception here as they usually don’t have a weight limit.
2. Penalty fees for prohibited items
All companies have a list of items that can’t be placed into your skip bin, and this may differ from company to company. Items are usually prohibited for health and safety reasons, but also because some items can only be recycled or disposed of at specialised depots.
With this in mind, it’s useful to find out what waste types you can and cannot place into your skip bin before ordering it. Hopefully, most companies provide this information for you, however, you may find that some do not. The best place to look out for these would be on the companies’ FAQ’s or within their T&C’s 😊
If you do place an item that is classed as prohibited into your skip bin, you may find yourself with a hefty fee! And I’m sure that no one wants to dip into that ‘DO NOT TOUCH’ savings account.
3. GST not included in the price
Although not common, we’ve noticed some skip bin hire companies quote their prices excluding GST. This makes their pricing appear more competitive at the outset, but once you’ve filled out all your details and you’re ready to make payment—BOOM! There’s a surprise 15% for GST on top of the quoted price.
So, always look out for whether the price is stated as including or excluding GST, and if there’s only a price without any reference to GST, it’s worth asking about.
